Early Childhood Education Priority – Early Math
In October 2010, the Foundation announced a multi-million dollar, multi-year Early Math Education Initiative to enable young children from low income communities to become proficient at mathematics at the appropriate grade or developmental level.
The initiative enables a birth through 3rd grade continuum of best practices in professional development for teachers and caregivers. We encourage collaboration among our grantees to enhance learning and sharing of best practices.
In 2016, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to the Initiative with an additional $3.6 million in grants to support:
- Professional Development for Teachers of Young Children
- Family Engagement in the Math Learning of Young Children
- Influencing Early Childhood Mathematics Policies
- Early Childhood Teacher Preparation in Mathematics
