Early Math Education Initiative
In October 2010, CME Group Foundation announced a multi-million dollar, multi-year grant program to enable young children from Chicago’s low-income communities to become proficient at mathematics at the appropriate grade and/or developmental level.
Mathematics is at the top of the national education policy agenda – meeting the demands of international competition in the 21st century that requires a workforce competent in math. Providing young children with extensive, high quality early math instruction serves as a foundation for later learning and contributes to addressing long-term systemic inequities in educational outcomes.
Building on previous early math grants, the initiative enables:
-
birth through 3rd grade continuum of best practices
-
large, multi-year grants for greater impact
-
small, one-year grants to foster new ideas
We encourage collaboration among our grantees to enhance learning and sharing of best practices.
