Charter School Expansion and Evaluation
CME Group Foundation supports the expansion of successful charter school networks to new campuses to serve more students. We believe that all families should have the right to choose a public school that best serves the needs of their children no matter where they live. Charter schools, are public schools, open to all children. Because they are free from the policies and regulations that govern district schools, they can do what it takes to make sure their students succeed as they prepare for college and their future careers.
They provide students from low-income communities with many of the advantages of their peers from more advantaged circumstances, through:
-
longer schools days
-
longer school years
-
rigorous college preparatory curricula
-
high expectations from all
In five years, CME Group Foundation has invested $2 million in start-up funding for four new charter schools serving more than 2000 students from Chicago’s inner city neighborhoods each year. Through the Renaissance Schools Fund, the Foundation has invested more than $1 million to evaluate charter school performance and communicate that information to parents and the community.
